The Lantern is a 501c3 non profit organization based in the Greater Charlotte NC area that seeks to combat human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
The Lantern works on 3 primary fronts; Education, Victim Identification, and Restoration. Education: Though training, speaking and educating individuals we seek to slow the tide of victims that can be easily exploited. The Lantern offers in-person, video, zoom and digital resources. Victim Identification: The Lantern has specific resources and training available for those who may encounter victims or work with those who are at-risk helping them identify and report. Restoration: The Lantern currently operates 3 safe houses (transitional) for survivors. These houses offer case-,management and access to therapy, job placement training and more.
The Lantern is always looking for engaged, consistent volunteers. People can serve in all areas from event planning, social media/digital help all the way to survivor assistance. Each tier of volunteering requires different levels of training.

We have many ways for churches to be involved in the fight against trafficking. Everything from doing donation drives to training at staff and having The Lantern do a security assessment. Churches can also become Lantern stations which shows a deeper investment in protecting your congregation and your community. We offer trainings for pastors, children’s workers as well as the general congregation. Churches can also be part of the justice week initiative in which a week of the churches time is devoted to prayer for an end of trafficking and educating themselves about its realities. Just this week is a great way to call attention to the issue and make a lasting impact!
At The Lantern, we believe local businesses are the backbone of our society and we offer for specific trainings for businesses to become what we call a Lantern station. A Lantern station is a symbol in the community of that businesses commitment to protecting its staff and its community. These simple trainings can be done remotely and not only offer vital information for businesses and staff, but show your commitment to shining a light for those in your community, who need it. Check out some of our other Lantern stations on our website.
